Exhibition
Patrick Bergsma’s impressive artworks will be on display at Van Loon Galleries from Saturday September 9 to Sunday October 15 2023.
Patrick Bergsma (Netherlands 1965)
In his grandfather’s old antique shop, Patrick Bergsma became fascinated by Chinese porcelain. He frequently uses this material in his impressive works, combined with natural elements such as bonsai trees and flowers. The contrast between the shiny surface of porcelain and the natural elements creates an impressive whole, symbolising the fragility of mankind.
Patrick Bergsma’s work has its origins in postmodernism. Recurring themes are criticism of systems, relativism and the tension between nature and culture. In all his works, we see the decay of earthly existence and nature winning out over what man has created. Patrick lets nature win, as it would if we let nature take its course.
His current, authentic work brings together everything in which he has developed. For this, Patrick has created his own techniques using coconut fibres, polymers, kaolin and quartz for the natural elements. Nature always seems to find a way to overcome and adapt. This is reflected in his artworks.
