Rabarama
Italy 1969
Rabarama is the pseudonym of Paola Epifani, a renowned artist living and working in Padua, a city in northern Italy. From an early age, as the daughter of an artist, she showed a remarkable talent for sculpting. Her artistic training began at the art academy in Treviso and continued at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. She graduated with honours in 1991 and almost immediately entered several national and international sculpture competitions. Her work soon attracted the attention of critics and art lovers, leading to wide appreciation and recognition.
Rabarama creates expressive sculptures and paintings of men, women and hybrid beings, often rendered in unusual, striking poses. Her work explores themes of destiny and human nature. The skin of her figures is covered with complex patterns, symbols, letters and signs, each unique and full of meaning. After casting, the sculptures are each painted by hand, giving them their own “DNA”.
Rabarama is recognised worldwide as an exceptionally versatile and talented artist. Her oeuvre has won numerous awards and honours, underlining her reputation as a leading visual artist./p>
