Exhibition Pollen, Van Loon Galleries

Exhibition Hub Pollen

The detailed paintings by Hub Pollen can be admired at Van Loon Galleries from Saturday 5 February to Sunday 13 March 2022.

Hub Pollen (Netherlands, 1946)

About 20 years ago Hub Pollen made the decision to become a painter. As an autodidact he searched for the discipline and medium in which he felt good while painting. It became ‘the still life in oil paint’. “Painting still lifes in oil is a noble craft”, says Hub. He mastered the old painting techniques with diligence and diligence. The development in his work is in its progressive improvement, not in changing styles or materials. Realism writes Hub with a capital letter. His still lifes are therefore astonishingly realistic.

The love for detail radiates from his paintings. He spends a lot of time determining the composition and the objects he wants to paint. The play of light and dark gives character to his paintings. He prefers everyday scenes with both antique and contemporary objects, flowers, vegetables and fruit. In doing so, he increasingly works according to the principle of ‘less is more’. He finds only a few objects or a few pieces of fruit sufficient for a beautiful and peaceful still life. Each painting is unique, made with love for the craft and passion for the art.
