Early on, Tcholaria had a strong preference for French art at the beginning of the 20th century. For his studies he went to the Mukhin Institute in Saint Petersburg and was often attracted by the old masters and the impressionists in the Hermitage Museum.
His work can be found internationally at leading galleries in Europe and in Moscow. Well-known society figures and art collectors have his work in their collection.
In 2016 he became an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.
