Sculpturen

Jaba is the stage name of Claudia Ivanchev-Schuurs.

Her background is art craft. Since 1986, she has worked on commission in applied art for the upper market segment both at home and abroad: including ornaments in many historical styles for national monuments. For interiors of many super yachts and villas, she produced ornaments and figurative work.

Full of her own ideas and creative drive, in 2019 she took the natural and obvious step of creating free work. From art within craft to craft within art.

Jaba: “With great enthusiasm, I make sculptures. I feel at home in the millennia-old and timeless craft within sculpture: the movement of my hand, with in it a chisel, rasp or spatula shaping the material, until, through removal and build-up, a sculpture is created with exactly the expression I was looking for. I love that honesty and directness.”

Her sculptures are classically modern and are on the border between figurative and abstract. Everyone’s own experience is added. She sends them out into the world without accompanying, supporting or guiding words. The eloquence and quality must be in the work itself.

“With great enthusiasm, I create sculptures. I feel at home in the millennia-old and timeless craft within sculpture”
