Van Loon Galleries exhibition Patrick Bergsma

Van Loon Galleries is organising an exhibition of works by Patrick Bergsma. The new artworks can be seen from Saturday 09 September to Sunday 15 October 2023 at the gallery on the Heuvel in the centre of Vught.

Patrick Bergsma (1965)

Patrick Bergsma has a fascination for Chinese porcelain. According to Patrick Bergsma, human culture has a long history of making and decorating ceramics and porcelain. He has developed his own techniques to make bonsai trees and flowers with coconut fibres, polymers, kaolin and quartz. He combines the ancient Asian arts of Ikebana, bonsai and penjing with antique porcelain. Eastern porcelain art was a major influence in the Netherlands on the development of the popular Delftware in the golden age. What we call typically Dutch, such as Delftware, was originally an attempt to imitate the very popular porcelain imported from China and Japan. Bergsma often uses the 17th-century ‘imitations’, combined with natural elements such as bonsai and ikebana.

Patrick Bergsma studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (1991-1996). He exhibited at leading galleries throughout the country. Internationally, he exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Riga, Brussels and frequently in Germany, among other places.
